This is hard manual labor. Gardening experience nice, but not required. Must have the physical strength and stamina to load and unload around 30 wheelbarrows of mulch. Instruction will be provided on how to distribute mulch around bushes and trees. Tools provided and lunch.

Winter shipping season is our busiest time, as this is when our trees and shrubs are dormant and can be dug, graded, and shipped to customers. We are looking for seasonal help in our Shipping Department!

The Shipping Crew is responsible for preparing and packing orders for shipment and managing graded plant inventory. Working location will be the shipping barn and inside of the attached cooler and freezer. Daily tasks include stocking and organizing large bags of bare root plants, pulling orders ahead of scheduled shipping days, packing boxes and stacking pallets for freight delivery, maintaining good communication with other staff, and keeping a clean and organized workspace.

While the majority of time will be spent in the barn, there are associated outdoor tasks that often take place in inclement weather. This is a very physical position, requiring repeated lifting of up to 70 lbs. and potential equipment operation. Cheerful willingness is essential!

Qualifications
This position requires sustained physical activity, efficient speed, and accuracy. Candidate must be capable of working on their feet all day, and of lifting of 50-70 lbs. with additional walking, carrying, and bending. Attention to detail is crucial to ensure accuracy of order fulfillment and customer satisfaction.

Familiarity with native plant species and botanical nomenclature is helpful but not required. Readiness to learn on the job is essential regardless of background.

An ideal candidate can work well independently and with a team, take directions easily and respond willingly to inevitable changes in priorities and tasks. While we strive to make the winter shipping world as organized as possible, last minute changes due to weather, customer needs, or other factors will always occur. 1. Current Work Schedule: Ten (10) regular weekly hours, plus additional unscheduled hours up to a total of 1014 hours annually, to substitute for absent staff at all WCLS libraries, including evening and weekend hours.

Regular schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday – 3:15 to 8:15 pm. Successful candidates may be required to adapt to future schedule and/or worksite changes depending on library needs.
