WORKING HOURS: Sixteen (16) regular weekly hours, plus additional unscheduled hours up to a total of 1014 hours annually, to substitute for absent staff at all WCLS libraries, including evening and weekend hours. Regular schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday – 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Successful candidates may be required to adapt to future schedule and/or worksite changes depending on library needs.
LOCATION: Regular hours at Lynden Library; substitute hours at Lynden and other libraries
DUTIES: Sorts and shelves books and other library materials alpha/numerically; performs shelf reading and reorganizes shelves for correct location of materials and attractive appearance of shelves; performs minor repairs on books and library materials; assists patrons with basic circulation tasks; and other similar duties.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to gain working knowledge of Whatcom County Library System’s policies and procedures; ability to act as a representative of Whatcom County Library System to the public and uphold intellectual freedom standards; ability to perform alpha/numeric filing accurately; ability to learn and utilize the Dewey Decimal System; ability to check materials in and out on the Horizon circulation system; ability to establish priorities and organize workload; ability to maintain tact, courtesy, confidentiality, and strict discretion in dealing with the public; ability to maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere. Work requires considerable physical effort in the handling of materials up to 30 pounds and/or continual standing or walking 90%+ of the time. Requires the ability to speak and understand English. • Adjust, assemble and install POC’s, Backflow assemblies, PRV’s, flow sensors, Master Valves, QCV’s, zone valves and manifolds, wiring systems, controllers, weather sensors, and communication wire system splicing
• Adjust, assemble and installation of all drainage system components from piping conveyance, to catch basins, filters, and outfalls
• Adjust, assemble and install low voltage lighting system transformers, timers, wiring systems, lighting fixtures/appurtenances and electrical system splicing
• Trench, install and fit piping for irrigation systems
• Sets sprinkler heads and valve boxes
• Perform rough and fine grading, digs trenches as well as planting trees and shrubs, laying ground cover, installing turf, applying bark and cleaning up job site after completion of irrigation projects
• Procure parts required to repair, create, or renovate irrigation systems while maintaining accurate inventory and strict cost controls to ensure job performed within required financial requirements
• Gather and update historical data for each account regarding water sources, point of connection and mainline location, services performed, and parts installed
• Partner with customers by suggesting watering schedules and tactics to reduce water usage and costs, and proposes solutions during periods of droughts or water restrictions
• Communicates with customers on a routine basis to ensure satisfaction with service and solves problems to foster a positive, long-term relationship
• Ensures irrigation jobs are managed within budget to meet or exceed all required financial performance metrics
• Adjust irrigation schedules to maximize capacity and efficiency of workflow
• Assist in the maintenance and care of all employee issued Company assets including, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, tools, and resources
• Preparation and submittal of all daily work orders, day sheets, trip logs, as-builts, controller logs, inventory records, materials manifests, and any other related documents as assigned
• Partner with crew members where needed on irrigation projects/jobs
• Provide some sales and setting of customer service appointments
• Must be able to operate smart phone and computer • Effectively and efficiently communicate in English: verbally, electronically/digitally and in writing
• Operate trencher, small hand tools (power and manual), skidster, sod cutter, dingo, air compressor with boring and piercing tool

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
3 + years irrigation work experience is required
Valid WA driver’s license with clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
Irrigation Technician Certification
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Experience operating mini-excavator
