We need ongoing gardening help for a large residential yard. The job will include a variety of activities; weeding, lifting, raking, moving rocks, planting bushes, trimming trees, moving small plants to new areas, summer and fall clean-up, some heavy lifting. This is an ongoing opportunity with getting ready for fall clean-up now and then starting again in spring and through the summer next year.

Work time is flexible and can be during the day, evenings when there is enough light and/or weekends.

Qualifications
This is hard manual labor. Gardening experience nice, but not required. Must have the physical strength and stamina to load and unload around 30 wheelbarrows of mulch. Instruction will be provided on how to distribute mulch around bushes and trees. Tools provided and lunch.

Possible ongoing help:
We are looking for someone who is eager, reliable, quick to learn, works hard, can focus, pull a weed out and get the root too and occasionally work unsupervised. This is an opportunity for the right person to continue through next summer and fall and even for several years.

Job Summary Whatcom County Parks is hiring 2 seasonal employees to assist with trail and facility construction and maintenance. Length of assignment is anticipated to be October to January. These positions perform a wide variety of routine and complex tasks at County Parks. A typical work day may include building and maintaining trails, removing invasive plants, working with volunteers, cleaning facilities, performing grounds maintenance, and explaining park rules. The specific duties will vary dayby-day.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

• Construct and maintain a variety of non-motorized recreational trails using a variety of hand and power tools. Tasks include trail tread and bridge construction, reconstruction, drainage maintenance, and mechanical brushing.

• Operate a variety of mechanized equipment including pickup trucks and trailers, tractors, totters, brushers, chainsaws, and blowers.

• Maintain park facilities by completing light carpentry, routine maintenance tasks, and janitorial services.

• Perform grounds maintenance work, such as removing invasive plants, cutting grass, weeding, pruning, raking, and picking up litter.

• Provide park information to visitors and enforce rules.

Qualifications
Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.
