Job Summary
Whatcom County Parks & Recreation Department is recruiting for the Maintenance Worker II position.  This position is responsible for working independently with minimal supervision to maintain the Bellingham Senior Activity Center and other Parks facilities.
Performs grounds, custodial and facilities maintenance manual tasks related to the upkeep, preventive maintenance and repair of County grounds, structures and facilities, balancing team and individual responsibilities with minimal supervision.  Operates and maintains related tools, equipment and machinery, within scope of licensure and established guidelines.  Performs manual work to preserve and/or improve the appearance, usefulness and safety of County property and resources. Complies with safety and legal standards and requirements.
Supervisor: Maintenance / Construction Supervisor or Regional Parks Supervisor
Hours of work: Generally 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.  Works outside of normal hours or on a weekend at times,  in order to maintain availability to open and close assigned facility at varying times, and to accomplish tasks that require the facility to be unoccupied (floor cleaning, for example).

Requires a high school diploma or GED + 2 years of recent experience in grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance and repair, and custodial work.
Candidate must be able to work in a positive and collaborative manner with older adults and contracted service provider.
Must be able to work effectively with limited supervision.
Safety focus is very important for all Parks & Recreation department employees.
Special Requirements:
Background check must meet County criteria.

Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid Washington State driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.

Must pass a physical capacities examination.

Must pass job-related tests.
Working conditions: Lifts and moves 20 to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally lifts and moves up to 100 pounds with assistance. Works in, on, or near water, and on ladders.  Bends, reaches, pushes, pulls, and twists; reaches above shoulder level, works on hands and knees and in confined spaces. Needs a high degree of precision and care in working independently with tools, equipment and machinery and associated noise.


Master Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary Range 110.0

Full salary range: $18.58 – $28.14 per hour

Hiring range anticipated to be $18.58 – $20.09 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Annual step increases plus cost of living adjustment, per the Master Collective Bargaining Agreement.
