Park Attendant Parks and Recreation

Salary: $20.53-$31.12 per hour Closing Date: November 12, 2019 at 4:30 PM

Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for the position of Park Attendant to start work in January, 2020.
Under the general supervision of Regional Park Supervisors and/or Park Rangers, this position performs duties associated with park maintenance and operations. Primary duties include cleaning and basic maintenance of grounds, facilities, equipment, and trails; supporting operations activities associated with facility rentals, range operations, revenues, and visitor engagement; informing the public regarding park rules and regulations; implementing safety programs for staff and park visitors; coordinating the work of peers, subordinate staff, and volunteers, as assigned; and assisting in achievement of Department goals and objectives. Complies with policies, procedures, legal standards and requirements.
The Park Attendant will be assigned to work in a variety of locations throughout Whatcom County Parks. Primary assignment is West Region, including Hovander and Semiahmoo Parks, and other facilities and properties. May be assigned to cover parks in other regions. Will be assigned to occasional shifts at Plantation Rifle Range.
Qualifications • Two years of post-secondary education in Park or Recreation Management, or similar field of study (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) AND 1 year of experience in park operations, maintenance and management;
OR
• High school diploma or GED AND three (3) years of experience in park operations, maintenance and management.
Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.
Because work assignments include locations in Point Roberts, must be eligible to cross between the United States and Canada at time of hire and throughout employment.
This position is subject to an open work week schedule which means the hours and days of regular shifts may vary, and typically include weekends and holidays.
