If you answered yes to these questions, the Whatcom County Public Works Stormwater Division would like to hear about your qualifications to fill this key Engineer role. The Stormwater Division works to protect water resources, improve water quality, and impacts from stormwater runoff in the unincorporated areas of Whatcom County. This Engineer position serves as a crucial link between the public, consultants, contractors, DOE, EPA, and County staff on stormwater issues.
Primary duties include:
Managing priority public works stormwater projects and contracts from design to construction.
Drainage analysis and design.
Ensuring compliance with NPDES Phase II requirements.
Working with local, state, or federal agencies in applying for, successfully obtaining, and managing grant funding for various projects.
Formulating budgets, cost estimation, reviewing designs, monitoring performance.
Working with the public one on one and providing public presentations.
Working with AutoCad.
Familiarity with county drainage design requirements as well as other local and state permit requirements.
Working in sensitive areas including areas with cultural resources.
Working collaboratively as a team member and providing guidance and assistance to staff members.

Supervisor: Engineering Manager
PW Seniority Division: Stormwater and Natural Resources
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field; and
At least 6 years of progressively responsible and applicable Engineering experience; and
Possess an Engineer-In-Training Certificate (E.I.T.);
OR Possess a Professional Engineer License within an applicable field of expertise.
MCBA Range 220.0, $32.09 – $45.81 / hour.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $32.09 – $34.65 per hour.
