Job Description General Responsibilities
1. To identify and meet the emotional and spiritual needs of all summer staff, providing personal guidance when needed and exerting positive Christian influence at all times
2. To identify and meet the physical needs of all summer staff by being responsible for his/her health, cleanliness, and safety
3. Strive to build self-esteem, self-efficacy and self-value in each camper and staff member
4. Understand, interpret, follow, and maintain the camp’s standards and policies
5. Represent the camp and its purpose in a positive manner when you are in public
6. Possess an attitude and actions which continually reflect that Christ lives within you and that you view your position as an opportunity to be in His service
7. Encourage the development and growth of the gifts and leadership skills in other staff members

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Leadership/role model
a. Be a model of leadership, responsibility, and Christian character for all staff
b. Be alert to the needs, problems, and morale of the staff and campers and consult with the administration as needed
c. Work as servants to staff, providing necessary organization, program materials, direction, encouragement, and evaluation
d. Assign tasks and responsibilities as necessary to ensure program needs are met
e. Assist other staff in any task that will enhance the outdoor ministry of Lutherwood Camp and Retreat Center
f. Maintain good public relations with the parents of campers
g. Guide staff and campers from dangerous activities or circumstances
h. Encourage respect for the property of others and for the camp’s facilities and equipment

2. Administrative
a. Participate in the planning and execution of the summer staff training program
b. Assist in registration of the campers and camper orientation
c. Supervise and help in weekly clean-up assignments
d. Create evaluations for campers to fill out at the end of the week
e. Attend daily and weekly staff meetings, facilitating as necessary
f. When necessary refer discipline problems (camper and staff) to Program Director
g. Be in communication with the Program Director about the performance (praises and concerns) of fellow Lutherwood members
h. Assist in assigning campers to cabins as well as handing out mail and email

3. Program: shared responsibilities with the other team leader
a. Be responsible for the daily schedule and the organization of daily activities, campfires and special activities, Examples: all camp game, choose your own adventure, cabin fairy
b. Take charge of all meals: meal order, KP duty, Grace, and announcements
c. Assist in the planning and leading of worship and campfires making sure that summer staff is involved in the execution
d. Lead other activities as needed including but not limited to: hikes, ropes, archery…
e. Organize campouts making sure counselors and campers have everything they need to be successful
f. Consult with resource person on how they wish to be incorporated into the week and plan for their involvement

4. Other
a. Take time each day to fill your spiritual needs
b. Make sure YOU and the other staff members are practicing good hygiene, sleeping habits, and eating habits while at camp
c. Be on call to serve as a counselor with all the responsibilities of that position, if need be

Qualifications Required Qualifications
1. Preferred age – 21 years old
2. Dedicated Christian who is willing to share their faith in Christ with others
3. Desire and ability to work with children and other staff outdoors
4. Have a good background in outdoor ministry
5. Possess strong leadership qualities
6. Certified in CPR/First Aid and have their WA state food handlers certification prior to summer

1. Possess the ability to lead others in group activities
2. Organization skills
3. Self-motivation to get things done and start things on his/her own
4. Willingness to experience outdoor living and to teach/learn new skills
5. Ability to accept supervision and guidance
6. Possess imagination, a sense of humor, patience, conviction, sincerity, enthusiasm, initiative, self-control, adaptability, willingness to learn, integrity, ingenuity, a sense of spiritual direction, and the presence of God in his/her life

Compensation

$220/week
Days/Hours Varies, June 10-Aug. 11
